5 Mother's Day Gifts She Will Love!

This week, as we celebrate Mother’s Day, we want to honor the women in our lives who have always been there for us, poured time and energy into our lives, and have made so many sacrifices for us. Be it a mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, or dear friend—we want to love and give to those who have purposed to help and guide us. They enrich our lives with great joy.

What better way to give a “thank you” to these fine ladies than to prepare a special gift—something from the heart! Here are five ideas that can work with all manner of time constraints (and budgets!). They are sure to be greatly appreciated by the recipient—the loving lady who takes care of your family.

Five Special Gifts for Mothers

  1. A teacup is much more than just a kitchen item—it is an invitation to come together and partake. Sit and rest a spell. Share the events of the day. Why not offer a teacup of your choosing (matched or mismatched, simple or ornate) along with a handwritten invitation to tea? This says, “I want to spend time with you. You’re important to me. Let’s make time in between the busyness of this spring and have tea together!”

  2. Flowers have long expressed a language of their own. (Read more about this in my book, The Unspoken Language of Fans and Flowers.) Why not choose a meaningful or favorite flower? If these are fresh-cut flowers, display them in a mason jar wrapped with ribbon or a decorative vase. If you pick a flower from your local garden center or nursery, find a creative way to replant your gift. A vintage teapot, teacup, or soup tureen would make a lovely planter for this special lady.

  3. If you happen to find a beautiful serving dish while out and about, you may consider filling it with a special treat. Most mothers rarely take the time to make something for themselves. Why not try a delicious Hummingbird Cake (Southern Seasons, 12 Months of Tea-licious Recipes & Ideas, p. 72) or fresh Stuffed Strawberries (p. 66)? After the treats are gone, she will be able to enjoy the new dish throughout the year!

  4. One of the best gifts is serving those you love. A Mother’s Day breakfast or brunch is sure to please. Purchase or create a simple selection, add a dish of fresh fruit and her favorite beverage—Voila! If you want to get the kids involved, a sweet and easy treat to serve is always a parfait (p. 79)—simply slice fresh fruit, layer with jello, cool whip or yogurt, and top with graham cracker crumbs, chocolate shavings or granola. Let’s make a memory!

  5. It’s always a perfect choice to add to her collection. Is your mother a collector of vintage table linens or teacups? Does she love to collect cookbooks? The most memorable gift just might be the new Southern Seasons cookbook—Southern Seasons, 12 Months of Tea-licious Recipes & Ideas.
