April is National Garden Month

What do you envision when I mention the word "garden"?

Perhaps a relaxing swing overlooking the well-manicured rose garden your grandmother tended all the years of your childhood. Maybe you remember weeding between rows of tomatoes and green beans with your mother in your family vegetable garden. Did you ever pick a cherry tomato to clean and eat, still warm from the bright summer sun?

We long to go back to the "good old days," don't we? Well, why not bring a bit of the "good old days" home again to the next generation?

April is National Garden Month & it's just in time to plan your very own garden. What will you grow this year and treasure with the family you love? Whether you are an avid gardener, always on top of your garden plans, or maybe you have never grown anything of your own. Be encouraged this year to try something new!

*If you don't have a green thumb, start small with an indoor planting of your favorite flower or herb. A red geranium is always lovely in a bay window. Fresh basil is a favorite herb that can be used in a number of summer recipes and is even lovely with simple tomato, mozzarella & olive oil. Choose the plant you will love and nurture in your home.

*If you love plants but have a busy lifestyle, You can garden in large plants on your back deck. Take a trip to the local garden nursery or garden section of your hardware store. Touch and smell the beautiful offerings of plants and flowers. Take home what you love with the perfect lighting for your space (Full Sun, Partial Shade--it's important to check!).

*Then to you, the avid gardener: Ahhhh! You are a person after my own heart. As you garden through the year, look for spaces you desire to fill and branch out into something new. Reach and discover something to enjoy for your garden this year. Perhaps you are skilled at roses and irises, weeding and fertilizing--purchase yourself a climbing wisteria or lilac bush. Research the flowering trees you always see in your town square every spring. You've always admired them but never planted one of your own.

Now is the time.

Plant. Grow. Enjoy.

We hope your gardens provide you many happy memories in the coming year!
